VFC 52: LIVE SATURDAY, JULY 16 FROM BAXTER ARENA AND ON UFC FIGHT PASS®
Omaha, Neb. – This Saturday, July 16, Victory Fighting Championship returns to Baxter Arena for an explosive card featuring the Midwest’s best in the sport of mixed martial arts. Shown worldwide on UFC FIGHT PASS®, VFC 52 will feature a blockbuster welterweight main event between Hawaiian prodigy Maki Pitolo and Kassius “Kayne”, who steps in as a short notice replacement for the Blackzilian Jason Jackson. For the co-main event, Omaha’s own Dakota Cochrane takes on Kansas City’s Jason Witt in a back-to-back welterweight showstopper. All the pro action starts at 9 p.m. CT, with the first bout at 7 p.m. CT; doors open at 6 p.m. CT.
“With UFC within his sights, Maki Pitolo has everything to gain Saturday night, while Kassius Kayne has absolutely nothing to lose,” said Ryan Stoddard, Victory FC owner and CEO. “Kayne stepped in on short notice to replace Pitolo’s original matchup, Jason Jackson, and therefore is counted out as far as MMA odds go. This makes Kayne a very dangerous opponent, even as he readies to take on the best 170-pounder in Victory FC.”
Pitolo (7-2) is the second coming in Hawaiian prodigies, following closely in the footsteps of the Island’s greatest, B.J. Penn. Riding a six-fight win streak in the 170-pound division, Pitolo last fought at VFC 50 where he decimated Justin Guthrie with punches in a first round TKO. His opponent, the Omaha product, Kassius “Kayne” Holdorf (8-2) poses a serious threat to Pitolo’s dreams of ascending to the UFC Octagon. Not one of Kayne’s victories have gone the distance, or have even made it to the third round. This Saturday, Pitolo faces his biggest task yet at VFC 52 versus the Nebraskan knockout artist, Kassius Kayne.
Tickets for VFC 52 are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com and the Baxter Arena Ticket Office. Tickets start at $25.00 (not include surcharge and applicable service fees).
The co-main event of the evening sees MMA veteran and Omaha local Dakota Cochrane (23-10) take on Kansas City’s Jason Witt (7-2). Ex-UFC star Cochrane has won six of his last seven fights and is coming off a tough five-round split decision win over Dequan Townsend. He will square off against Witt who has ran undefeated since January 2015, racking up four straight wins over Jeremy Small, Josh Tulley, Ryan Dickson and Isaac Valley-Flaag in the process.
Also on the VFC 52 main card is a featherweight matchup between Lincoln Nebraska’s Grant Dawson (9-1) and Joplin, Missouri’s Christian Camp (6-5). In a bantamweight bout, Houston, Texas’ Raufeon Stots (5-0) faces Omaha local Charlie Dubray (16-10). In a third welterweight collision, hometown hero Duane Johnson (1-0) takes on Junction City’s Ivey Nixon (2-0). Featherweight Sodiq Yusuff (1-0), fighting out of Richmond, Virginia, faces Waterloo, Iowa’s John Ramirez (2-0). In the card’s back-to-back bantamweight kickers, Demetrius Wilson, fighting out of Kansas City, takes on Las Vegan Ian Lujan (1-0), while Omaha’s Corey Roberts (2-3) touches gloves with Hawaii’s Cheyden Leialoha (2-0) as the first fight of the night.
